Your Mind

Revised: Nov 23, 2023

One of the key questions is whether humans create their own thoughts or if thoughts come to humans from somewhere else.  Thoughts, in either case, must be created before they can exist or come to you.  But where do these thoughts originate?  Are they self-created, or is there another source, perhaps God?  Take a moment to reflect on your beliefs about the origin of your thoughts.  Where did the thought you just had about that come from?

Can you send a thought back to its source?  If so, where is that source?  Can you deny a thought once it enters your mind, or prevent the next thought from arising?

I’ve just asked you seven questions.  Now, quit thinking about that and think about this!  Would it be normal for you to stop reading here and ask God for the answers to those questions?  Or would it be normal for you to keep reading to get answers?  Or would it be normal for you to determine your answers from what is already in your mind?  Or would it be normal for you to look it up or ask someone else?

What if it was in your nature to ask God but that was not what you normally do?

What is in your nature is what God built or created.  What is in your normal is what you built or created.  Which do you trust more?  Which is likely closer to your truth?  When your nature becomes your normal, how will you have changed your mind from what it is today?

It’s important to distinguish between what is natural and what is normal. Normal refers to what is typically done, while natural reflects your inherent state when you aren’t attempting to conform to what is normal. Acting lovingly is one of the most natural expressions of yourself.  If you act lovingly, you will be acting naturally.  If you react fearfully, resentfully, angrily, you may be acting normally, but you will never be acting naturally.

Understanding the distinction between thoughts and feelings is crucial.  Thoughts represent ideas about how you should feel, while feelings are your direct emotional experiences.  When thoughts and feelings become muddled, truth can become obscured.  To reconnect with your genuine feelings, it’s essential to refocus your mind on your emotions and sensory experiences.  Once you recognize your truth, strive to live in alignment with it.

Perhaps it is time we give some thought regarding the source of what is entering our mind and who determines what is entering our mind.
